African American Heritage House (AAHH) Lecture Series: Dr. Carl L. Hart, Ph.D.
Please join us online at CHQ Assembly on Friday, August 20 at 1:00 pm EDT for our ninth program of the 2021 Summer Assembly Season. We are pleased to present Dr. Carl L. Hart, Ziff Professor at Columbia University and former chair of the Department of Psychology, as he delivers a talk in line with the weekly theme of The Human Brain: Our Greatest Mystery.
Dr. Hart is one of the world’s preeminent experts on the effects of so-called recreational drugs on the human mind and body. Dr. Hart has published more than 100 scientific articles in the area of neuropsychopharmacology.
He has also published multiple books, including “High Price: A Neuroscientist’s Journey of Self-Discovery That Challenges Everything You Know About Drugs and Society,” which won the 2014 PEN/E.O. Wilson Literary Science Writing Award. His most recent book, “Drug Use for Grown-ups: Chasing Liberty in the Land of Fear,” is changing the national conversation on drug use.
Dr. Hart has appeared on multiple podcasts, radio, and television shows. His essays have been published in several popular publications including The New York Times, Scientific American, The Nation, Ebony, and O Globo. He has been the recipient of numerous awards, and in 2016, the city of Miami issued a proclamation declaring February 1, 2016 “Dr. Carl Hart Day.”
